Our local supermarkets very kindly allow us to (very quietly!) shake our collecting tins on their premises very regularly. The photo shows our tame Lion at a recent collection in the Llansamlet Tesco store. You can always recognise us by our tabards and Club shirts. A big thank you if you’ve passed us at one of these collections and given some money. The Club likes to recognise the invaluable help that local supermarkets give to
Glantawe Lions Club were invited to hold a fundraising stall at St David’s Church, Abercrave on Saturday 9th July, where Rev Alun Brookfield & his parishioners were holding an event to further increase their savings towards the £250,000 required for both renovation & restoration work, together with new builds at St David’s Church, Abercrave, as it approaches its Centenary in 2012. Glantawe Lions were pleased to hear St David’s Church parishioners have risen over half the sum required.
The highlight of the day was Rev Alun Brookfield’s abseil down the St David’s Church 56ft tower. Children were invited to fetch their Teddies, which after first registering, were taken to the top of the tower by the event organisers & they then bungee jumped from the top
First aid was available to check the Teddies over after their huge jump, before they received a certificated for their effort, whilst their owners received a badge.
Rev Edward bear, the same height as the Glantawe Lion, together with the numerous teddies on the day, made the Glantawe Lion feel it had prowled too far from its den & found itself amongst a sleuth of bears.
An enjoyable day was had by the Glantawe Lions members, John, David, Brendan & Christine, despite the often wet weather. Fortunately the rain held off for the period that the abseil took place. Lion David explained that in Abercrave they say, if you can’t see the top of the mountain in front you, it’s raining, whilst if you can see the top of the mountain, it’ll be raining shortly.
