The Lions Young Ambassador scheme acknowledges the work of young people working as volunteers. It gives them the recognition they deserve, boosting their self esteem, their confidence in themselves and highlighting the charities or volunteer groups with which they are involved.
Lion Christine Sweeney, our Glantawe Lions 2011 – 2012 Young Ambassador officer, was delighted to learn that she’d found a Young Ambassador during her search, to represent Glantawe Lions at the 2012 Lions 105W District Young Ambassadors competition.
Carys Norris, a pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Gwmraeg Bryn Tawe and a resident of Trebanos, was sponsored by Glantawe Lions to represent the Club in the Lions 105W District Young Ambassador competition. Carys has played in the Cwmtawe Youth band, which comes under the umbrella of West Glamorgan Music Services, for the past 10 years as their lead Euphonium player and has also spent a large period doing voluntary work.
Carys however went on to further please the club, a result of her presenting the story of her charitable work at the District competition and was chosen as the winning entry of the five candidates within the District, that entered this years competition. Glantawe Lions members are obviously delighted.
On hearing Carys announced as the winner, Carys’s Mother, together with a few members of Glantawe Lions shed a few tears of joy and she was presented the trophies for winning the Young Ambassador District competition, to be held by the club for the following year.
Carys now goes on to represent District 105W, at the Multiple District (whole of UK) final in February, to be held at Dudley.
Lion President Philip Taylor, later told his Glantawe Lion members, “This is a fantastic result for Glantawe Lions.”
Carys earned herself well deserved thanks, together with a financial bursary from the club, for representing Glantawe Lions club in the District competition. Also as a result of her win, £500 is now secured for Carys chosen charity, Cwmtawe Youth band. This will be available after her presentation in the Multi District competition, spread over 3 days in the near future, to include fun events for all the young people that won their district competitions. All the competitors will also then receive miniature cups to keep, for them having won their previous District competitions.
Congratulations on behalf of Glantawe Lions Club go out to the 5 competitors in this years District Young Ambassadors competition. Although only one person can win it, all the competitors are young people that deserve recognition for doing great work in the community and we wish them every success in their futures.
If you’re interested in entering future annual Young Ambassador Competitions on behalf of Glantawe Lions, or would like to recommend a young person who has a story to tell of their volunteering efforts, then please contact us.
